The highest and lowest ten-year returns

Among the 35 products anyone can join with ten years of comparable returns, a year after fees and tax for a $50,000 member. The median MySuper product returned 8.03%. More growth assets usually mean higher long-run returns and bigger falls, so each product shows its growth share.

Both lists share one scale from zero, so the bars compare across them. Past returns don't predict future ones.

All 50 MySuper products, by what members actually earned

Returns are a year over the ten years to 30 June 2026, for a member with $50,000, after all fees and taxes. Fees are a year on $50,000: administration, investment and transaction costs. Sort by fees or size, or find your own fund.

  • Lifecycle products move members to safer assets as they age. Their figures here are for the stage with the most growth assets; each product page lists every stage.
  • Employer plans are open only to staff of a participating employer or members of a public sector scheme, so they are hidden until you include them.
  • * Under seven years of history, which the performance test treats as a pass. Products without ten years show their longest record and sit at the end.
  • † APRA notes that this product's net investment returns are reported gross of tax and are not comparable to other products.

Full results

Every year APRA compares each MySuper and trustee-directed product with a benchmark built from its own asset mix. In 2026 it tested 50 MySuper products and 497 trustee-directed products, the choice options a fund designs itself. BUSSQ MySuper failed. A product that fails must tell its members within 28 days; one that fails two years running is closed to new members.

The fee gap alone is worth $60,425 on a $50,000 balance over 30 years

Three members each start with $50,000, add nothing and earn the same 7% a year before fees for 30 years. The only difference is what their product charges: the cheapest MySuper product open to anyone, the one in the middle and the dearest, with APRA's fees scaled as the balance grows. 7% is an illustration, not a forecast.

Contributions widen the gap, because every dollar added pays the fee too. The super fee calculator runs it on your own balance, income and fees.

Four things the ranking doesn't tell you on its own

Risk

A product with 90% in shares and property should beat one with 70% over a decade of rising markets, and fall harder in a crash. Compare products with a similar growth share, or look at how each did against its own benchmark on its page.

Ten years is one cycle

The ten years to 30 June 2026 include strong share markets. A product's rank can change a lot from one ten-year window to the next, and APRA's test judges it against its own benchmark rather than against other funds.

Your balance changes the fee

Flat dollar fees cost a small account more as a share of the balance. Each product page shows fees at $10,000, $25,000, $50,000, $100,000 and $250,000.

Insurance is extra

These fees exclude insurance premiums, which most funds deduct for default life, disability and income cover. Check your annual statement for what you pay.

Questions people ask about super funds

Which super fund had the best 10-year return to 30 June 2026?
Among MySuper products anyone can join, FirstChoice Employer Super - MySuper (Colonial First State FirstChoice Superannuation Trust) returned 9.27% a year over the ten years to 30 June 2026 for a member with $50,000, after fees and taxes (its CFS Lifestage (2000-2004) stage, 94% in growth assets). Team Super MySuper Lifecycle (9.27%) and Essential Super - MySuper (8.96%) were next, and the median MySuper product returned 8.03%. Products with more growth assets tend to lead after strong markets, and past returns do not predict future ones.
Which super fund has the lowest fees?
Vanguard MySuper (Vanguard Super) charged the least of the MySuper products open to anyone: $245 a year in total fees and costs on a $50,000 balance (0.49%). The median MySuper product charged $410, and the most expensive open to anyone, Hostplus MySuper, $655.
Which super funds failed the 2026 performance test?
12 products failed APRA's 2026 test. MySuper: BUSSQ MySuper. Trustee-directed products: 11, 5 of them for a second year running, which closes them to new members.
What is a MySuper product?
It is the default super product your employer pays into if you do not choose a fund: one diversified investment option, or a lifecycle option that moves to safer assets as you age, with standard fees and an annual performance test. APRA's 2026 data covers 50 MySuper products from 38 funds.
What does the return to a $50,000 member mean?
APRA works out what a member with a $50,000 balance actually earned each year after investment fees, administration fees and taxes. Because flat dollar fees weigh more on small balances, someone with much more or less than $50,000 will have seen a slightly different return from the same product.
Where does this data come from?
From APRA's Comprehensive Product Performance Package, published 28 August 2026 with data to 30 June 2026, under a Creative Commons licence. We read the files APRA publishes and show its figures unchanged. For lifecycle products, which report a result for each age stage, the table shows the stage with the most growth assets; each product's page lists every stage.
