How to read a gas plan

Supply charge
A fixed amount for each day you're connected, whatever you use. It differs between gas distribution zones in the same state.
Usage charge
Cents for each megajoule (MJ) of gas. Many plans charge in steps: a higher rate for the first block of gas each day or quarter and a lower rate after it, so heavy users pay less per MJ on average.
Discounts and fees
Some discounts only apply if you pay on time or by direct debit, and some plans charge a fee to leave early. Prices published under the Consumer Data Right usually exclude GST, which adds 10% to the bill.
